Tanya Riches of Sydney will be the keynote presenter at Songwrite 2018. If you’ve ever sung the song, “Jesus, what a beautiful name,” then you have already encountered her music – although there is much more to Tanya and her music than that: worship leader, song-writer, scholar and consultant.
Tanya is a pastor at Hillsong Church, Sydney, and Master Degree Coordinator at Hillsong College.
She was administrator of Hillsong United worship band for 6 years and lead singer of Australian independent band ‘Speaking of Sarah.’
Tanya has a BA, MPhil and a PhD in theological studies, and is an internationally respected academic working in Pentecostal Studies and Missiology, and academic and lecturer in worship and music. She has just completed her PhD (Fuller Seminary USA) on the ethnography of Australia’s Indigenous Christians attending urban contemporary churches. Tanya has a passion for justice, reflected in, among other things, her work with people with disabilities (through the Centre for Disability Studies at University of Sydney) and her advocacy, in word and song, for justice issues including people seeking asylum. She has a particular interest in cross-cultural worship and music. Find out more about Tanya at https://www.tanyariches.org/.
Tanya has a busy schedule and we are delighted that she has agreed to be our lead presenter, accompanied by her guitarist-husband Tim. She will bring a wealth of theological, cross-cultural, worship and compositional expertise to inspire and stimulate song-writers old and new.
Songwrite 2018 offers a rare opportunity to share in-depth with Tanya and for her to engage with Uniting Church song-writers.
